Still sounding modern after all these years.

This is a remarkable CD, of remarkable music from an extraordinary composer. In his lifetime,Vareses compositional output was small, but even today, amongst the many examples of modern composing styles, his works are unique, vivid and still original. The recording is outstanding; the Concertgebouw are magnificent and Chaillys conducting is sensitive to these unique soundscapes. This CD is highly recommended, and a fine entry point for those interested in the later avantgarde works of other comnposers.

An excellent starter set

If you dont know whether you like Varese or not, this is a good place to start. There is bound to be something on here you like, and if not, give it another go. Lovingly constructed from Vareses legacy of notes, every work has been built with great care and attention to detail. If there are better recordings than these, then please point me to them. This set is well worth the price, so add it to your wish list right away.

Hauntingly Beautiful, Sends shivers down your spine

I was originally played this by a friend and I knew right away that it was an album I had to have. The vocals are so pure and clear and when Jan Garbarek flows in with the sax it takes your breath away. This is an album which moves me every time I listen to it. If you havent heard it before buy it now.
