Helpful and interesting |
I am currently undertaking a loft conversion using professional tradesmen and I found this book extremely helpful, in fact the best book I could find on the subject. The illustrations are extremely interesting and accurate and show, in every detail, how loft conversions are built from beginning to end.

BASIC |
IF YOU KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING CONCERNED WITH LOFT CONVERSIONS THEN THIS BOOK WOULD BE A GOOD OVERVIEW OF THE WHOLE PROCEDURE. HOWEVER IF YOU ARE AN EXPERIENCED DIYER OR A BUILDER THE BOOK OFFERS NO PRACTICAL HELP WITH THE TECHNICAL SIDE OF CONVERTING A LOFT. I ALSO NOTICED IT MADE NO REFERENCES TO SPACESAVER STAIRCASES WHICH COMPLY WITH BUILDING REGULATIONS AND ARE BECOMING EVER MORE POPULAR.

Basic proof reading errors |
Although the book looks promising from a quick scan through, I cant recommend this for a complete novice, which is the target audience. There are several errors in the text and especially in the illustrations of load bearing and non-load bearing walls. Staircase types are also incorrectly labelled. The first section of the book on planning permission and building regulations will put even the less than faint hearted off the whole idea... I would have preferred more hands on information on assessing roof construction and preparation of the site rather than the over laboured section on drawing plan types. All in all there is a little too much repetition and padding in the book for the cover price.
