Eye Toy: Play

I opened the product, plugged the camera in, and enjoyed! The camera setup is simple, just plug it into either one of the USB ports on the front of your PS2, then insert the Eye Toy: Play disc, and wait for it to load. You dont need your controller at all, just wait for it to load up and then you do all the controls with your hands. The games are fun. My favourtie is "Wishi Washi", where you have to clear the foam on the window with your hands. Included on the disc are music games, boxing, football and a few others. The football one is "Keep Ups". This is pretty hard because when you move your leg/arm/hand up to hit the ball, you also hit the ball when your leg/arm/hand moves back down. A bit too sensitive. However the games are brilliant and fun for all the family. Overall, a fanastic, fun game which is great when you have yer mates round for the multiplayer mode.

Pure Genius

Since I heard of the idea of yet another peripheral I did wonder about Eye-Toy. Its bad enough the proliferation of pads and arcade sticks, steering wheels and guns cluttering up the house.Besides, Ive played those lame games that come with a web cam....so why do I want this? How wrong can anyone be. This is unadulterated fun, fun,fun,fun..got it? The twelve games are pretty diverse, and not at all gimmicky as you may imagine.For the record they are: Beat Freak - Bemani style game; Kung-Foo - Batter the ninjas into submission; Wishi Washi - Clean windows (complete with George Formby soundtrack!); Keep Ups - Keep the footie in the air ; Boxing Chump - Hilarious sideways on boxing game ; UFO Juggler - Help the alien craft escape the atmosphere ; Slapstream - Bizzare game in the clouds, slap the ratmen and not the bunny girls (really) ; Plate Spinner - Like the lame old circus act, but in the jungle ; Boogie Down - Hit the lights (think Space Channel 5); Ghost Catcher - Catch ghosts ; Mirror Time - Brilliant mind bending puzzle ; Rocket Rumble - Fantavision that you control and detonate. All games contain a tutorial and are short enough to instill one-more-go syndrome. Add to this the multi-player mode, and a party is definitely on the cards. Not only that, but get the high score on any game and the camera takes a pic of you to display on the board...quite brilliant.Also contained is video messaging. A portent of the future apps for this clever little cam. Record with sound onto a memory card your own personal message. The games are all manic, some will make you sweat hard...dont be fooled into thinking this is a kids thing...it is very very very good.And excellent value for money. You will NOT be disappointed. I promise.

PS2 Eye Toy - Fantastic!

The Eye Toy is absolutely fantastic. It arrived today, and the set-up is virtually non existent. Plug it in and youre away - kids could do it themselves with no problems at all. I was expecting it to be good, but nowhere near as good as it is. With the focus dial you can get your image appearing pretty sharply on screen, and the time lag between you moving and the image moving is tiny. In addition, where we have our PS2 you have to be standing against a mirrored wardrobe which I thought would cause problems, but it doesnt at all. It doesnt seem sensitive to whatevers in the background. Theres a decent variety of games, and best of all its British, so (for instance) when playing the window washing game, When Im Cleaning Windows is the soundtrack. Yes its kitsch. Yes youll lose all credibility if the neighbours or your mates see you playing with it. But its genuinely fun, and one thing I hadnt thought about is how much exercise Im going to get. Itll definitely help your diet along. Im not convinced the games are substantial enough to have you playing for hours every day for the next five years, but for the price of any other chart game its the most innovative console add-on around at the moment. Perfectly timed for the summer holidays, itll tire the kids out nicely leaving the adults to play it at night.
