gr8 book, but buy the newer 1st one!

what a FANTASTIC book. I just could not write anything about how good this book is without ending up writing 5000 words!!! So, why the 2* rating? - Well, it is because you do not need to buy this 2nd book of Jans now as this WHOLE book is now included in the back of her first one! "The Dog Listener". (Just look for the one with the little red blob/star on the front cover. Top left corner). Annoyingly, Amazon chose not to mention this, and I ordered both last week. Doh. Anyway, because the book is soooo good, im going to keep the redundant practical dog listerner and give it to a friend. The 2 stars is for Amazon, but this book gets 5. scott.

Leader of the pack

As a dog trainer myself with successful stories to tell, I was formulating a plan to address a particular problem dog and bought The Dog Listener for additional inspiration. What I discovered was I was on the right path and having read this excellent book, I now have more tools to help the dogs I am asked to see. As with all successful methods, it is a very simple one and that makes it difficult to adhere to as humans always look to complicate matters. To make full use of the methodology Jan has developed, you must be prepared to forget everything you have been taught about dog training in the past and open your mind and start to think like a dog. There are precious few who can do this as our human programming takes over all too easily. If you are serious about your dogs and want them to be happy and content, you have to own this book. To see my dogs with "soft faces" is a real pleasure.

A Great Follow-up!

I recieved The Dog Listener as a Christmas present, and loved it! I did find it a little hard to always focus, because of lack of pictures. I was more than chuffed however when I discovered that she had written a follow-up. I went straight out and brought it. It is definatly best to be read after the first. The first is more of a foundation, and this one is the building blocks and mortor of a great way of communicating with our best friends! It is easy to comprehend with step-by-step pictures and an simple to apply 30-day plan. Although the actions to follow are ssimple in their content and application, the after effects are astounding! You can achieve actual communication with canines, and not just barking (excuse the pun) orders and commands at them. I would recommend this book (but only as a partner book to the orignial) to any owner who wants to understand their dogs better and achieve a much deeper and more fulfilling relationship.
