FINALLY got it working onWindows 98

The drivers that come on the disk that comes with the Dlink-520+ dont work, basically! You have to download the most up-to-date drivers from their website. Also- the card will not work on many windows 98 first edition, or 98 second edition UPGRADED from 95 systems. I got it working on one machine- but basically it can only be guaranteed to work on a clean Windows 98 Second Edition installation. Also- the reception strength of the card isnt superb. I have no other wireless card to compare it with, but I only get 70% reception strength on a card placed almost next to the transmitter. Once I got the card working, I then had a problem connecting to the transmitter site- ie it showed a site present, but I could not get any signals strength indictaor bars in the control panel. I had to disable MAC address access in the transmitter to allow the card to log on. It took me 4 hours to find this out by experimentation. I would have thought it needed to be enabled

Great card, not completely compatible

My first exposure to this card was in conjunction with the DWL-650+ card I bought for my laptop. Initial installation was very easy, with the accompanying manual laid out in a logical and well explained manner. The supplied D-Link AirPlus software makes configuration fast and easy, which is a big bonus with WiFi cards. Security isnt explained completely, which is something of a problem with wireless networks, but if you know what youre trying to achieve, the software makes it very easy. If you have two or more cards in the AirPlus range, the connect speed doubles from 11 to 22Mb per second. Traffic over the network at this speed makes all but the most demanding tasks possible. I did have some issues with this card working properly on my PC, which turned out to be at a lower level than I normally like to deal with. Technical support from D-Link was slow, but eventually supplied the answer. All in all, a good buy, with plenty of features and great speed.

Falling off a log

There is not much that you need to know, so I will keep it brief. I have a cable modem using USB and wanted to change to an ethernet card. Im not much of a techie, although I can open up my PC without needing Valium. In the box was a guide for idiots like me, so it was all embarrassingly simple: open PC, plug in card, close PC, run installation CD, job done. Painless, stressless, and no problems of any kind since. If only it was always so easy.
