A detailed guide to how your bike actually works
Got a bike or scooter? Do your own maintenance? Got the Haynes manual? Want to know how everything actually works, rather than just how it all bolts together? Then this is book is just for you..

Each chapter takes a major system of the bike (Engine, gearbox, suspension, etc), and without assuming any prior knowledge, guides the reader from the generic physical principles, to the basic system concepts, and into the detailed design variations found on past and present bikes.

The writing is clear and concise without ever being patronising or simplistic, and it doesnt go into so much detail you need a degree to understand it.

My only complaints are that the excellent colour illustrations in Chapter 1 arent carried through to the rest of the book, and the book doesnt explain "how things go wrong" - a fault finding section at the end would be invaluable for the novice spanner monkey like me!

According to the front cover, this book is aimed at students on Further Education courses in Motorcycle engineering, but I would recommend it to anyone who wants to understand a bit more about how their chosen two-wheeler operates, and how it differs from other designs.

You dont have to be a racer to appreciate this book.
As a newbie (and nervous) biker, I found _Twist II_ turned my riding around. Code achieves complete clarity of style; the glossaries are initially irritating, but they work in hammering home the point that he is picking his words carefully and means *exactly* what he says.

Not all of the material is applicable to street riding, but Codes mental toolkit approach means that most of it is still very useful to non-racers. I didnt buy this book to learn how to go faster, just how to ride with improved smoothness and confidence; now I ride faster *as well*. Read a chapter or two at a time, attentively, and stop being your bikes worst enemy.

A MUST read for any motorcyclist!
Ever wondered why you get "that corner" right sometimes and wrong others? Well heres your chance to find out. Keith Code explains in clear and easy to understand terms, what make your bike stick to the road like glue one day and then slide the next. The book is written primarily for road racers, but dont let that put you off. After reading this book several times now, I have learned so much about riding on the road, that I am forever in Daves debt for lending me his copy before I bought mine. If you read this book and take it in, you will become a smoother, cleaner and faster rider. So take the time to read it, and enjoy your riding afterwards. N.B. Keith Code runs the California Superbike school and has trained riders like Doug Chandler, so he knows what hes talking about.
