Practical advice that inspires

Well-written book. Nicely organized chapters with a logical progression through the topics and wisdom this book offers. I guess most people would learn from this book. I see this as much as a book on finance (although this is not taking up many pages, the book/appendix has excellent tables to help you choose the road that is the most relevant for your situation) as I see it as a book on building techniques and a life philosophy. Actually I did not find it that radical or extreme, but much more practical. It has some very good advice and this will help you to better grasp your own ideas (I guess you have some, since you are considering this book). I would buy it again, should I lose my copy.

This book is fabulous !!

This is a great inspirational work. As a professional engineer I was impressed with Robs practical and structured design approach to building environmentally harmonious low cost homes. Note I say homes as there is a great deal of difference between house, or other structure and a true home. I have personally questioned some insane practices related to building regulations and finance. Over engineering is a comparable crime to under engineering and being intimidated by a bankers and estate agents is in essence a perfect crime. His strategies are outwardly obvious, the true indicator of pragmatic solutions, and the book is simple while not being simplistic. He writes with an elegant and engaging style, the book was read in a single sitting. I strongly recommend this book. It has certainly bolstered my intent to build without a mortgage.
