The best travel book I have ever read |
|
A really special account of a journey by (somewhat weathered) rowing boat through the Midlands to London. Its full of dead-pan humour and interesting interactions between the weary traveller, fishermen, boat people, and lock keepers - as well as some hilarious encounters with gale force winds, dangerous bushes, malevolent sardines, and blue groundsheets. Llewellyns adventurous ordeal makes Michael Palins journey around the world look like a stark and clinically uneventful daytrip to Swindon. How I laughed as I lay in bed chewing my Remegel tablets. (Theyre chewy, not chalky).
