Far, Far, FAR Too Short

This novel - more of a pamphlet really - left me feeling cheated. Did Terry send the story outline to the publishers, and just forget to write the novel itself? The wealth of detail and depth of story that makes the rest of the series so great is mostly absent from this offering. The characters skip from scene to scene with the journey just skipped over, events just happen in a sequence with little time spent on the reasons for it, or the characters thoughts and feelings on the matter. Its a good story, though, and its always nice to read the background to the events we already know about, but its just too brief. And to sell it at the same price as the others is just insulting, when its less than a quarter of the size. Its not worth the money they want for it. More of a synopsis of the book than a book itself.

Shorter, but still great!

Debt of bones is a short Novella by who I have come to recognize as one of the masters of modern fantasy - Terry Goodkind. I felt it was very different to the stories of Richard and Kahlan and also very strange, maybe because it was so small compared to the others and I finished it in a few hours, or maybe because it is unlike anything that Terry Goodkind has produced before. The story is based around a peasant woman Abby who goes to consult the First Wizard - Zeddicus Zul Zorander (Zedd), and asks if he can help to save her small village she had escaped from, from the evil DHarans led by Panis Rahl father to Darken Rahl. Zedd reluctantly agrees but what Abby doesnt tell him is that there are DHarans waiting to ambush the first wizard. The story tells of what Zedd was like and how he acted as First Wizard before he became old and wrinkly, before Wizards First Rule. It also tells of how the boundaries of the Underworld were originally established and what happened to the father of Darken Rahl. This book is very enjoyable but short which is one of its bad points. Another flaw to this book is that it didnt have Richard and Kahlan in it!!!!!!! Apart from that, the book was interesting to learn about what had happened to Zedds daughter, and how many Confessors there were then and how they were treated. All in all, a very good book!

Very short, but well written

It is very short compared to other pieces, but the quality of the work was very good, and the story is well written. It tells us that little bit more about Zedds life and it is in all a very good book. But in the future, keep to your long stories Terry.
