oh corks!!

My husband was given one of these for Christmas and I must say it seems crazy that you cant remove synthetic corks with it, any idea how many bottles of wine have synthetic corks these days? If that were really the case it would soom become obsolete. However, I havnt had a problem with removing said corks, the only problem I have encountered is getting any kind of cork off the screw afterwards, it drives me mad!!!

How about synthetic corks?

Got one of these for Christmas and it is a very well engineered item. I love it although it is heavier to use and needs a lot more storage space than your average corkscrew. The way it zips the corks out is very satisfying although not for the limp wristed. On the top of the box it states "Fit for all types of bottle". Turn the box over and on the back it states" Caution: The Connoisser Corkscrew is not designed for use with synthetic corks due to its non-stick coating screw" A bit of contradiction there I think. It is also tricky to identify some synthetic corks these days prior to opening the bottle. Having said that I have used mine without incident on synthetic corks (whats the point of having a nice piece of kit and then having to use something else half the time. Its a bit like being charged for tap water and being told you cant drink it!) Finally, hang on to one as a rare piece of over engineered bar kit! It wont be a big seller with its compromised usage and heavy weight.

What a corker

This is an excellent example of a lever type corkscrew at a very reasonable price. It is sturdily constructed and I suspect works just as well as many of the more expensive ones on the market.Corks are removed very quickly and easily - it would be particularly useful for someone with lots of bottles to open for a party or for people who find it difficult to use a conventional screw pull type.It comes complete with a foil cutter and extra thread.
